How to Share a VPN Connection via Mobile Hotspot Using Every Proxy

Introduction

Have you ever connected to a VPN on your Android smartphone for enhanced privacy, security, or to access geo-blocked content and wanted to share that secure connection with your other devices?

You have likely noticed that simply turning on your native mobile hotspot does not work. By default, Android's built-in hotspot feature routes tethered traffic through your standard internet connection, completely bypassing your active VPN. Fortunately, you can easily bridge this connection and route traffic from laptops, tablets, and other phones through your Android device using standard proxy protocols.

Using a free application called "Every Proxy", you can turn your smartphone into a lightweight HTTP proxy server. The best part? It runs fully on-device and does not require you to root your phone. This guide will show you exactly how to share your Android’s VPN connection to another Android, iOS, or Windows device.

Requirements

Before starting, ensure you have the following:

  • The Host Device: An Android smartphone with an active internet connection (Mobile Data or Wi-Fi).

  • A VPN: Any standard, working VPN app connected to the host device.

  • Every Proxy App: Download and install "Every Proxy" from the Google Play Store on your host device.

  • The Receiving Device: The secondary phone, tablet, or PC you want to connect to the internet.

Step 1: Configure the Host Device (Android)

First, we need to set up the proxy server on the phone that provides internet access.

  1. Connect your preferred VPN app on your main Android device.

  2. Turn on your Mobile Hotspot.

  3. Open the Every Proxy app.

  4. Toggle the switch next to HTTP to enable the proxy server.

  5. Once enabled, the app will display a list of IP addresses (usually separated by commas) and a specific port number (often 8080).

  6. Write down the IP address and Port. It is highly recommended to use the IP address that begins with 192.168.x.x.

Step 2: Configure the Receiving Device

Now, connect your second device to your host Android's Wi-Fi hotspot. At this stage, it will say "Connected without internet." You must configure the proxy settings to bridge the gap. Follow the steps below based on your receiving device's operating system.

Option A: For an Android Receiving Device

  1. Go to your phone's Settings and tap on Network and Internet (or Wi-Fi).

  2. Tap and hold on the name of the Hotspot network you just connected to.

  3. Select Modify Network (you may need to tap "Advanced Options" on some models).

  4. Scroll down to the Proxy section and change it from "None" to Manual.

  5. In the Proxy Hostname field, input the 192.168.x.x IP address you got from the Every Proxy app.

  6. In the Proxy Port field, input the port number (e.g., 8080)

  7. Tap Save.

Option B: For an iOS Receiving Device (iPhone/iPad)

  1. Open the Settings app and tap on Wi-Fi.

  2. Tap the blue "i" icon next to the connected hotspot network.

  3. Scroll to the very bottom and tap Configure Proxy.

  4. Change the setting from "Off" to Manual.

  5. Enter the Every Proxy IP address in the Server field and the port number in the Port field.

  6. Tap Save in the top right corner.

Option C: For a Windows PC

  1. Click the Start menu, search for Internet Options, and press Enter.

  2. Go to the Connections tab and click on LAN settings at the bottom.

  3. Check the box that says "Use a proxy server for your LAN."

  4. Input the IP address and port from the Every Proxy app.

  5. Click OK on both windows to save the settings.

Step 3: Verify the Connection

To confirm that your setup is working correctly:

  1. Open the Every Proxy app on your main host device. If the connection is successful, you will see green and red data bars fluctuating, indicating that network traffic is successfully passing through the proxy.

  2. On your receiving device, open a web browser and navigate to a website like YouTube, or try sending a message on WhatsApp.

Troubleshooting Tip:

If the green and red bars do not appear in Every Proxy and your second device has no internet, double-check that you entered the IP address and port exactly as they appear on the host device. A single typo will prevent the connection from working.
